DUTSE â€”THE Police in Jigawa have arrested six persons in connection with the theft of two brand new 500 KVA generating sets belonging to Horizon FM situated along Shuwarin Road in Dutse, Jigawa State.
Confirming the arrest to newsmen, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Dutse Divional Headquarters, Mr. Boniface Jimmy, said the driver of the vehicle and some of his aides including the link man in Fanisau were arrested with a lorry, while planning to execute the act around 2 a.mÂ on Sunday.
Mr. Boniface explained that already, the buyer of the two generating sets gave the sum of N110,000 as part payment to convey the generating sets to Lagos of which a balance of N190,000 will be paid to the carrier if he delivered them safely to Lagos which indicates that the sum of N300,000 was bargained as transportation of the generating sets.
The DPO added that in the process of interrogation, the link man, Mr. John Olu Ogoho, implicated an army officer serving with the Bukabo Barracks in Fanisau, Jigawa State, saying he was the initiator of the deal, pointing out that the police will soon invite the indicted army officer for questioning.
Commenting on the issue, General Manager of the radio station, Alhaji Hassan Safiyanu Gumel, said the place where the station was located was very porous which needed adequate security attention at all the time, and appealed to the Director-General and Zonal Director of the Federal Radio Cooperation of Nigeria (FRCN) to come to the aid of the station by making it habitable.
