PORT HARCOURT—TOTAL E&P is to send forty persons this October from its areas of operations in the Niger Delta  to Angola and Norway to acquire skills for engagement in oil and gas projects.

Manager, Public Affairs of the oil giant, Mr. Adokie Dappa, made this known weekend in Port Harcourt at a programme organized by the oil giant for 15 secondary schools drawn from Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.

He said, as part of its effort to contribute meaningfully to education in its areas of operations, the multinational oil firm deployed about 50 corps members to teach science subjects in secondary schools in these areas annually, adding that they are given encouraging incentives.

Dappa said 9570 students from its host communities benefit annually from the firm’s scholarship schemes.

He said the one day programme for the 15 secondary schools drawn from Rivers and Akwa Ibom states was to thoroughly prepare the students for contemporary challenges. Some resource persons, who spoke at the programme for the students, advised them on career opportunities in the oil and gas sector, sex education, etc.

One of them, Engr John Evwodere, who spoke on “Youths and Vision 2020″, urged the students to see themselves as key players in the programme packaged by the federal government. Accordingly, he charged them to continually remain responsible members of the public, so they could reap bountifully from the vision 2020 programme of the government.
