By Emma Amaize

WARRI— OBOTEBE kingdom, an Ijaw oil- producing clan in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, has threatened to severe relationship with the Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) for supposedly declining to accord deserved recognition to its communities, as owners of the land it was carrying out oil production.

In the words of the President-General of the governing council of the kingdom, Chief Julius Takeme, “Obotebe kingdom in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State is prepared to back out of every engagement with the Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC)”.

Citing deliberate provocation by NAOC and its agents, he said, “the company initially had agreement with the Labulouseigha community of Obotebe kingdom but the 52 hectares of land it planned to cover has encroached upon other communities as Belaizigha, Abadagbene and others, a fact that is known to the Special Adviser to the Delta State Government on Oil and Gas Matters, Mr. Ekerreokosu, who has inspected it together with some Agip representatives in August, this year”.
