Nigeria submits to IMO voluntary audit scheme

The Federal Ministry of Transport, through the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, has subscribed to the International Maritime Organization, IMO, member state Voluntary Audit Scheme.

The scope of Audit contained in the Memorandum of Cooperation signed by Nigeria and IMO include methodologies for Maritime Law enforcement, strategies for Flag State and Port State Control in Nigeria, Marine Management Strategies, domesticated Conventions, Marine Search and Rescue. Others are liaison with recognized Organizations, Flag State Reporting methods to the IMO, and General Safety Administration profile.

The Audit is aimed at assessing methodologies and strategies for achieving the objectives of Flag State implementation and Port State Control which include Safety of Life at Sea, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW AND POLLUTION REGULATIONS amongst others.
