Plans are under-way by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) to celebrate its twenty years anniversary in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, next month.
Some activities lined up for the one week event are: public service work by NAWOJ members, public lecture, visitation, gift presentations to charity homes and novelty match. Others include: Awards Nite/Appeal Fund Launch for the construction of NAWOJ Women Development Centre.
A statement by the National President of the women journalists body, Mrs. Fatimah Abdulkareem (fcim), said “the organisation has cause to celebrate in view of the giant strides NAWOJ have achieved since it was established twenty years agoâ€, adding that the women umbrella body has served as a protective shield for members trading in a competitive male-dominated journalism trade.
NAWOJ president who said the association has attained a remarkable height disclosed that one of the major highlights of the twenty years anniversary celebration is the investiture of Her Excellency, Hajia Turai Yar’Adua, First Lady, Federal Republic of Nigeria as a Grand Matron.
The public lecture will be delivered by the Chairperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mrs. Farida Waziri. The occasion will be chaired by the Eminent lawyer and Nationalist, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), CON.
Since inception twenty years ago, NAWOJ has lived up to the goals and objectives of its formation by promoting and fighting the cause of women not only in the noble pen profession but also in enhancing the status of women in all facets of our national life.
Fatimah Abdulkareem enjoined corporate organisations, brand owners and governments to support the celebrations through sponsorship as the event will be given massive publicity in the media.
