UGHELLIâ€”THE Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Micro Credit, Dr. Antonia Ashiedu, has said the state governmentâ€™s micro credit programme was aimed at liberating Deltans, particularly the rural poor, from the shackles of poverty.
Ahiedu, who spoke at Ughelli and Otu-Jeremi yesterday, charged the people of the state to embrace the programme with all seriousness and honesty, adding that over 93 groups, comprising over 1,175 persons, have so far been empowered under the new window of the programme.
She said the programme was designed for all Deltans and told them to be prudent and hardworking to be able to repay the loan.
Ashiedu reiterated the fact that the programme was part of the state governmentâ€™s effort to diversify its economy into other sources of productive ventures as an alternative to oil.
Ashiedu, who also spoke Wednesday at Koko in Warri North local government area of the state, said the beneficiaries were mostly women and urged them to utilize the credit facilities to create wealth to empower themselves.
She admonished the women not to divert the loans to other ventures, adding that if judiciously used, the loan would assist them to meet the basic needs of their families.
Ashiedu called on the men who were saddled with the responsibilities of providing for their families to key into the programme to raise their families above poverty.
