In line with their tradition to celebrate excellence and honour high achievers in Nollywood, organizers of Nollywood Outstanding Personality Awards (NOPA) have unveiled plans for the third edition of the prestigious award.

NOPA was set up to recognize and honour personalities and corporate bodies that have impacted or contributed positively to the existence and growth of Nollywood.

It considers the individual efforts of these personalities or corporate bodies even when they’ve not been heard about or have been forgotten because they are off the scene for one reason or the other.

Slated to hold on Friday,  December 4, at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos, the third edition of the award that has been lauded in various quarters as the ‘flagship of awards given totally on merit by journalists who can be rightly called the gatekeepers of the industry, will see tested and trusted practitioners like top director Adim Williams, the phenomenal talented duo of Chinedu Ikedieze  and Osita Iheme, ever green actress, Kate Henshaw, make-over guru, Dagogo Diminas and ace director of photography, Johnathan Gbemuto.

Also, the life time achievement awards will be investitured on Sir Mike Adenuga for his passionate interest for the entertainment industry and Sir Dr. Walter Ofonagoro for his contributions to Nollywood and arts in general as former DG of NTA and Minister of Information and Culture.

The ex-deputy editor of Thisday Newspaper, Oji Onoko and Shuaibu Husseni of the Guardian Newspaper will also be honoured on that day with the Diamond Pen Merit Award for their outstanding contributions to Movie Journalism while Vanguard Newspaper will be honoured for its incisive coverage and reportage of Nollywood.

According to the CEO of NOPA and President of the Association of Movie Journalists, Mr. Stanley U. Okoronkwo, “This edition will be simply grand and exciting.

The Director General of the National Lottery Commission, Dr. Peter Igho, has indicated his willingness to chair NOPA 2009 while His Imperial, Majesty Eze I. A. Ikonne, the Enyi 1 of Aba, will storm the event in his majestic splendour as the royal father of the day.”

The award whose theme is ‘The seal of excellence in professionalism’ is an initiative of Stanword Media Group and hosted in  partnership with the Association of Movie Journalists (AMJ). NOPA is actively supported by Nollywood guilds, Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), National Film Corporation (NFC), corporate bodies and the media.
