Abuja – THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has added the former managing director of Spring Bank Plc, Mr Charles Ojo, to the list of ex-bank executives in its cell. Former chief executive of Bank PHB Francis Atuche and a stock broker, Peter Ololo, had, on Friday, been arrested.
It was reliably gathered that the former managing director of Spring Bank was arrested at about 11.30 p.m on Friday in Lagos while the manhunt for the former CEO of Equitorial Trust Bank Ltd., Mr Ike Oraekwotu, is on by the EFCC operatives who arrived Lagos on Thursday to pick up debtors and the sacked bank MDs.
An EFCC source explained that the operatives were, at the weekend, not resting on their oars “as they are hundred percent sure that before midnight today (Sunday), the former managing director of ETB will be fished out.â€
The Central Bank of Nigeria had on October 2, sacked Oraekwotu and two other bank MDs, bringing the total number of axed bank CEOs to eight as their directors were also sent packing and new ones appointed. When contacted, last night, the EFCC Head, Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Babafemi, said “the former Spring Bank MD was arrested by our men and they are still looking for the other one.†Asked whether fresh debtors have been arrested, he declined further comments.
