Edo govt criticises PDP

By Simon Ebegbulem, Benin City
THE Edo State Government, yesterday, condemned leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, including the former Chairman Board of Trustees, of the party, Chief Tony Anenih, over what they described as the personal attack on Governor Adams Oshiomhole at a rally in Ewohinmi, Esan South East Local Government Council of the state last weekend.

Chief Anenih had in the rally where a former governorship aspirant of the AC, Mr Ken Imasuangbon decamped to the PDP, said there was no body in the Action Congress in the state and that “today we have seen that the AC is working but it is not cooling but blowing hot. And being a former labour leader is not governance. Good governance and provision of infrastructure is not showmanship or wearing of Khaki at Ringroad”.

However, reacting in press conference yesterday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Mr Charles Idahosa, described the criticisms of the  Governor as embarrassing and unexpected from a leader like Chief Anenih, whom according to him had presided over the nomination of PDP governors in the state since 1999 “ and they ruined the state”.

According to him, “we have great respect for Chief Anenih as a leader but we are very embarrassed by the comment he made that there is no body in AC. He forgot that it was those of us who left the PDP and moved to AC that collapsed PDP today. What Imasuagbon said that he was rigged out during the primaries and that the leadership of the AC Oshiomhole is not true.

“I was one of those who contested and I was the only one that contested against Oshiomhole at the primaries.

Imasuagbon and others withdrew for Oshiomhole, so he was just lying. Why having Mr Fix it fix water for his people in Esan land. Chief Anenih said Oshiomhole has been jumping up and down but he was the one who has been jumping around in the guise that he has business in settling militancy. What is his business in that.

“He should tell Nigerians what happened to billions of naira budgeted for our roads. The Benin_Auchi road is supposed to be dualized but he did not do that while he was a Minister. And in that road the chairman of his party died in a motor accident. We must separate politics from good governance. Look at how Benin has changed just few months that Oshiomhole is there as Governor. But the two years of PDP rule in this state was a waste” he asserted.

Commenting on the reconciliation between Chief Anenih and Dr Samuel Ogbemudia, Idahosa stated that “ we want them to reconcile so that we will continue to beat them. They have no bases in the state any more because their report card is failure. Oshiomhole is determined to put these people to shame through hard work and nothing more”.
