Ebonyi suspends approval for new schools

Abakaliki—The Ebonyi State Government has suspended the establishment of new public schools to enable it to come up with a framework for the development of existing ones to approved standard.

Mr. Sunday Okoro, the Commissioner for Education, made the announcement, yesterday at an event to commemorate Ebonyi Teachers Day.

He said, “the money to be used for the establishment of new schools will be channeled towards the maintenance of existing ones, to facilitate efficient service delivery to students. Government is determined to improve the quality of education to correct the notion that the state is  ranked among the educationally disadvantaged states in the country.’’

Okoro said government would allow communities, individuals and private organisations to establish schools, which would be run by them.
