Borno spends N3.5bn on road maintenace

MAIDUGURI— THE Borno State government has spent over N3.5 billion on the purchase of road construction materials and equipment for the newly established Borno State Road Maintenance Agency.

The Borno State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Mustapha Gajibo disclosed this to newsmen in his office in Maiduguri. He said with the establishment of the new agency, the issue of bad roads in the state would be a thing of the past.

He said when Governor Ali Modu Sheriff sent a bill to the state House of Assembly for the establishment of the Road Maintenance Agency in the state, the lawmakers quickly deliberated on the Bill and later gave approval for the setting up of the agency, as according to him, doing so will go a long way in ensuring proper usage and maintenance of the equipment earlier purchased by the state government.

The commissioner stated that a total of N176 million contract had been awarded for the construction of the agency’s office block complex along Pompomari by pass, which consists of office block, modern workshops, wire houses, generator house, gate house, Mosque, and filling station.

Gajibo said for the speedy completion of the project, the contract was awarded to contractors after bid process where,  Alhaji Ibrahim Chichi and Adamali Global Nig Limited were awarded N100 million and N76 million respectively.
