Onitsha – Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improved power supply through Independent Power Plant (IPP) projects.
Obi spoke in Onitsha, while declaring open the 4th Conference of the State Council on Industry.
The conference was organised by the state’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism in collaboration with Onitsha North Local Government Area.
The Governor said that power supply was the major challenge facing industrialisation in Nigeria as well as in Anambra State.
He said, “this conference is timely, especially now that industries are facing a big challenge in spite of efforts of government to provide an enabling environment for commerce and industry to thrive.â€
Obi said that the state government had opened talks with some companies to examine ways of improving the power supply to the state, especially in Onitsha, which is the commercial nerve centre of the state.
He said that the IPP, when completed, would beef-up electricity supply and support the industries in the state.
According to him, government will partner with the Bank of Industry to provide loans and capital to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the state.
He said that the completion of the Second Business Park in the commercial city of Onitsha, would further boost business in the state.
