ENUGU- Six years after the disappearance of her only son, Anthony Nnaji, a 65 year-old widow, Mrs. Rebecca Nnaji, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Ogbonna Onovo over the  development and called for security to be provided for the rest of her family.
The 29 year-old Anthony, reportedly fled their Umuewene Ijinike residence in Enugu state, following an attack by a four-man gang, who invaded their home on the eve of the 2003 general election. He was supposed to serve as Returning Officer for the Justice Party at the election.
The invaders were said to have shot several times into the air, apparently to ward off neighbors before forcing their way into the compound but Anthony luckily escaped.
Mrs Nnaji, who said she has not seen her son since the incident, narrated that the gunmen, who stormed the residence at about 11.00pm of the fateful day, forced their way into their apartment, demanding that she produce her son.
She said that Anthony had escaped through the back door while the men exchanged hot arguments with her husband, adding that the hoodlums, who she suspected to be “hired assassinsâ€, had ransacked the entire house, before dragging the husband with them in the middle of the night.
“They turned the entire place inside out, demanding to see Anthony after which they dragged my husband with them, when it was obvious that they could not trace the boyâ€, she said.
She explained that Anthony had returned home that fateful night from a political meeting, where they had gone to fine-tune strategies for the next day’s general election, stressing that there was no threat to his life before the incident.
