By Taye Obateru

Jos — A clash between a vigilante group and youths in Congo Russia area in the Plateau State capital, yesterday, created panic as many mistook it for another outbreak of ethno-religious violence.

Vanguard learnt that some youths in the area had mobilised to protest the alleged high-handedness and harassment by the vigilante group which reportedly resulted in the alleged torturing to death of a youth in the area.

The youths, believed to be friends of the deceased, reportedly got together to launch a reprisal attack on the vigilante group members with the leader as prime target.

Unconfirmed reports said the vigilante group leader, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, was attacked with dangerous weapons and had to be rushed to hospital.

His house located in Congo Russia was also torched and it took the state fire service several hours to put out the fire.

Supporters of the vigilante leader were said to have also mobilised for a counter attack resulting in a free-for-all.

Dangerous weapons were said to have been used by both sides leaving some of them injured. However, the timely arrival of the police and other security men brought the situation under control.
