WARRI—THE Ugbo Mefa Elders Assembly of Warri has givenUgbo Mefa Elders Assembly seven days within which to address issues of alleged insensitivity, neglect, marginalisation and lack of adherence to local content policy of the Federal Government or face a trade dispute.
It also demanded from the company a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on issues raised within the same period.
The Ugbo Mefa communities, including Ugbuwangue, Ode-Itsekiri, Okere, Ekurede, Ugbori and Orugbo, play host to Chevron’s multi-million naira Escravos-Gas-To-Liquid project in its Warri site where Intel, a major contracting firm to Chevron on the project, is the only contracting firm the communities are allowed to negotiate with.
In a letter addressed to the Project Director, Chevron Texaco Nigeria Limited and signed by Chief Patrick Yalaju, Mr. Michael Abrakata, Mark Akanni and nine others on behalf of Ugbo Mefa communities in Warri metropolis, the elders’ assembly accused the management of Intel of continued disregard for the community’s engagement in the course of executing the EGTL project in their domain.
