PPA accuses Ohakim of distabilisation plot

By Emmanuel Aziken and Luka Binniyat

Abuja – The Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) yesterday, accused Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State of fueling the instability rocking the party for the purpose of justifying his exit from the party.

The PPA’s allegation at a news briefing in Abuja, was immediately countered by Governor Ohakim, who washed  his hands off the crisis in his former party, saying that he already has the big task of reorganizing the Imo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The National Publicity Secretary of the PPA, Chief Ben Onyechere, who spoke to newsmen at the national headquarters of the party in Abuja also reiterated the party’s determination to retrieve its mandate from Governor Ohakim upon his decamping to the PDP.

Onyechere also accused the immediate former chairman of the party, Chief Clement Ebri, his deputy, Mr. Olu Akerele and another former national officer of being tools used in the destabilization plot.

Noting the alleged alliance of the trio with Governor Ohakim, he said, “they are going to all lengths to distract us to lend credibility to his leaving. If he had caused this confusion before leaving, it would have been a different thing, but now he had left and is still causing confusion,” he said.

He accused the trio of trading on “expensive falsehood between the Governor and the BOT Chairman,” saying they helped to engineer the crisis of confidence between Governor Ohakim and Chief Orji Kalu, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party.

Affirming the determination of the party to retrieve its mandate from the Governor,  he said, “we are bent on retrieving our mandate because if you read the judgment, victory was given to PPA, so he cannot run away with our mandate to PDP and that is why we are trying to reclaim it.”
