Police move 7 suspected kidnappers to Abuja

Enugu – Seven suspected leaders of a notorious gang of kidnappers arrested by Police detectives attached to the Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB), Lagos State Command in far away Enugu over the weekend, have been flown to Abuja, where they would be paraded by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ogbonna Onovo.

The suspects were among eight members of the gang that were rounded up after they abducted and later released  the wife of a popular transport magnet in the University town of Nsukka, few weeks back.

Police sources said most of the suspects are students of Enugu State University, who have confessed to being the brains behind series of kidnappings in Enugu, Nsukka and it’s environs in the recent past.

Sources said the suspects, which included one notorious cultist from the Northern part of the country, popularly called Hussein, had already confessed to the police how they shared their booty and revealed their modus operandi.

It was gathered that detectives investigating the case are still combing parts of Nsukka town and it’s environs so as to rounding up the remaining members of the gang, who disappeared after some of their leaders were arrested.

Meanwhile, Police sources disclosed that a Professor of Medicine, who was earlier abducted by the gang in Nsukka area was released unconditionally after they got hint of the presence of police detectives from Lagos in their territory.

The Professor was kidnapped by a group of young men, suspected to be members of the notorious gang but were reportedly boxed into a tight corner with the arrival of police detectives from Lagos, as they hastily released him unconditionally.
