By Festus Ahon
UGHELLI—THE legislative arm of Patani local government area has frozen the council’s accounts in the various banks and barred the council chairman, Mrs. Josephine Abeki, from spending money from the accounts till further notice.

The House, in a statement jointly signed by 17 members, including its leader and deputy leader, Edih University and Samuel Calabar, respectively, also barred the council chairman from paying salaries, imprests and entitlements to all political office holders, civil servant contractors and other businesses relating to the council.

According to the statement, the resolution of the House became necessary due  to the refusal of the council chairman to submit the council wage bill for the months of June, July and August 2009 to the House on demand.

Other reasons advanced by the House for its decision to freeze the accounts were the refusal of the chairman to furnish it with the actual monthly allocations and amount from excess crude till date and the operation of more than one account with different banks at the same time.
