AKURE —THE Ondo    State government and the opposition party in Ondo State (PDP) weekend disagreed over the conduct and the result of last Saturday by-election into the State House of Assembly in Akure North constituency of the state. INEC had conducted the election last Saturday to fill the vacant seat after the death of the PDP candidate, Akindele Alasoadura in 2007 after the election.
The Labour Party candidate, Akindele Adeniyi was declared winner of the election by polling 15,589 as against that of the PDP candidate Akin Idowu 1,602.
While the PDP described the election as a charade, the state governor Dr Olusegun Mimiko lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agents in the state over the conduct of the bye-election.
Dr Mimiko expressed satisfaction with the exercise, describing it as one of the freest and fairest elections in the State in recent time.
The PDP speaking through its publicity secretary, Chief Adeyemi Adedipe said it rejected the result as announced by INEC saying the election was characterized by violence, intimidation of voters and other electoral malpractices of gargantuan proportions
