Mangni-led PDP faction takes dissolution ‘in good faith’

By Taye Obateru

Jos – The Emmanuel Mangni-led faction of the PDP in Plateau State says it has taken the dissolution of the executive committees of factions of the party by the National Working Committee (NWC) in good faith and has commenced mobilisation for the fresh congresses ordered by the party.

Its Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Mangni said, yesterday, that the group accepted the directive of the NWC knowing it was taken in the overall interest of the party in the state.

According to him, his group was ready to make necessary sacrifice to ensure that the disagreement within the party is resolved so that it can consolidate ahead of the 2011 elections.

He said his group is not afraid of fresh congresses because it believes it has a strong support base which explains why it has commenced mobilising at the various levels.

Mangni said the threat by the chairman of the caretaker committee to oversee the party in the state and seal up the secretariats of the factions, did not apply to his group because they have stopped operating the secretariat.

He explained that as law abiding party members, the group even removed the flags hoisted at the secretariat to demonstrate respect for the party and its commitment to the peace process.

He appealed to all loyal party members to co-operate with the committee to ensure the success of its assignment.

The Professor Dakum Shown-led group, which has challenged its dissolution in court, continues to insist that the order of the Jos High Court stopping the inauguration of the caretaker committee still stands and should be respected.
