Lawmaker lauds Imo, LGs’ partnership on projects

OWERRI – The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on States and Local Government Affairs, Chief Emmanuel Adedeji, has commended the partnership between Imo State Government and the 27 local councils in the state in project execution.

Chief Adedeji, who spoke at a dinner held for the members of the Committee on tour of the state to monitor projects of the state and local governments,  was particularly happy that the state and local government partnership had led to the realization of significant and landmark projects in the state.

“The approach would help ensure a better management of the huge resources coming to the local governments from the statutory revenue allocation”, Adedeji said.

Speaking also, another member of the committee, Chief Chukwudi Eze, made a case for Imo state in the location of industries by the Federal Government.

He urged authorities in the three tiers of government to give legislators free hand to
carry out their oversight functions  which is a major ingredient of checks and balance in a democratic setting.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kezie Ogaziechi, who represented Governor Ikedi Ohakim, disclosed that the administration has gone a long way to re-establish confidence in the local government system with significant support from the State House of Assembly.
