INTERPOL commends Okiro

INTERNATIONAL Police (INTERPOL) headquarters in Lyon, France, has commended the immediate past inspector-general of police (IGP), Sir Mike Okiro for the “valuable contributions you have made to the international law enforcement community, during your tenure as inspector-general of police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

In an August 20, 2009 letter with reference no 2009/Aug/25/NCB/AFR/rl/DCS39151 the secretary-general of the International Criminal Police Organization, Ronald Noble,  remarked that the Interpol “benefitted greatly from your knowledge, professionalism and support not only among your national authorities, but also in international and regional meetings.”

Interpol headquarters particularly recognized Nigeria’s support to the organization in areas of “regular financial contributions and human resources” during Okiro’s tenure as IGP.

Noble also commended Okiro for accepting to “participate in new projects, such as the two-year pilot project launched this year with the Italian State Police to stem human trafficking, organized crime and illegal immigration into Italy.”
