AWKA-THE Anambra Movement for Change (AMC), a non partisan group formed by concerned citizens of Anambra state, whose are worried by the under- development of the state, has vowed to ensure that only a credible person, who can fast track the development of the state emerges the next Governor of the state in 2010.
Chairman of the group, Chief Damian Enekwechi, who addressed newsmen in Awka, today regretted that of all the states that were created in 1991, Anambra remains the poorest in terms of infrastructural development.
“Our leaders have not shown leadership by example in governance and have been displaying leadership by deceit and propaganda. Most of them make promises that portray them as having the interest of the citizens at heart but in the end, they never accomplished them,” he said.
“Since the creation of the state in 1991, it has not developed a befitting capital as the Governors are still operating from a make-shift refurbished site of a construction company, which was used in the late 1970s. This is at the expense of the people and their development because half of the money needed to service the temporary structures would have been enough to provide a befitting Government House in Awka.
“On security, we are now prisoners in our homes because of frequent armed robbery and kidnapping. We therefore, need a government that is alive and responsive to its responsibilities and social contract with the people.
