Gani’s death worries Anyim

By Anayo Okoli

ABAKALIKI – FORMER Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim is worried that there might not be a replacement for the late lawyer and human right activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, soon.

According to Senator Anyim, Gani’s death has robbed the country of a citizen’s advocate, whose life was committed to finding a perfect freedom for all classes of Nigerians, irrespective of tribe or status.

Anyim in a statement, yesterday, said “the likes of Gani Fawehinmi, bold, fearless and frank on issues are not always difficult to be identified among the crowd because they are rare breeds, who come in few numbers.

They define life not on its longevity progression but more on its positive impact on the wellbeing of others. Thus, they devote their own life constantly on the struggle for the emancipation of mankind and enthronement of justice.

“Gani was one man that every body held in high esteem. These are virtues which we shall live to remember the enigma called Gani Fawehinmi. He had a focused and precise concept of his dream society.

A society where there is justice, a society where there is equity and fairness. He campaigned for egalitarian society. He never suffered any perceptual refraction about his ideal society and he was never distracted on its pursuit despite the thorny paths to its realization.

He accepted the deprivations and personal sacrifices as he remained undaunted till his last breath.”
