The 2009 edition of the NUJ Media Games will open October 3 and close October 8, at the National Stadium, Lagos. The event is expected to be declared open by Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola.
Chairman of the Lagos NUJ Council, Alhaji Wahab Alabi Oba, who made the announcement at the September NUJ congress, revealed that the Lagos State Government graciously offered to provide spopnsorship support for the event to sustain the initiative which has become a major ralling point for journalists to interact, recreate and foster friendship through sports. He also informed that Director |General of the Nigeria Tourism Development Cortporation, Otunba Segun Runsewe, is also sponsoring the Five-a-side segment of the event in honour of late media icon, Ladi Lawal.
Also providing support for the games are the Kogi State government, former title sponsor, Spring Bank, Linkage Assurance and UAC Foods which is said to have offered products while further support is being expected from the Akwa Ibom, Edo, Bayelsa, Abia and Enugu state governments with their governors expected to join their Lagos State counterpart to grace the event alongside various top government, corporate and media executives.
