Estate developers union reads riot act to members

OWERRI – The leadership of Real estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) has said that all the certificates of members of the Association stand cancelled with effect from December 31, 2009.

The National President and Chairman of Council, Chief Olabode Afolayan, who read the riot act in Owerri, explained that the measure was to re-certify all members, to ensure that only genuine estate developers were issued certificates.

“With effect from 12 midnight, December 31, 2009, all certificates earlier issued by REDAN is deemed to be invalid. With this development, we will start re-certifying  members. We are doing this to weed out the bad ones in our fold”, Afolayan said.

He said that “as a responsible organisation, that is respected by government and all financial institutions in Nigeria, we are not comfortable with the recent damnable activities of an Abuja based company that collected about N600 million from unsuspecting citizens”.

According to him, the Association will now be responsible to the society, adding that no site can be sold to the public,  except the buyer subscribes  for it on the website of the Association.

“What we expect members of the public to do now is that when somebody says he is developing a property, all you need to do is quickly to go the website of REDAN and find out the details. Whatever you find on the website of REDAN is authentic”, Afolayan said.
