Elechi fingers lawmaker in plot to replace him

By Dennis Agbo

ABAKALIKI-Govornor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi state has insisted that a House of Representatives member from Ebonyi is scheming to replace him as governor of the state in 2011.

Making the allegation before the Governor, Chairman of Ezza-South local government council, Mr. Marcelenus Nwokporo, told the astonished Governor that a  National Assembly member, Ugo Chima, had approached him and asked him to support him (Chima) in his governorship ambition in 2011.

Nwokporo said: “He (Chima) told me that he has ambition and that the former governor, Sam Egwu, and Governor Elechi, agreed on one term for Governor Elechi after which he (Chima) will take over and that I should try and support him.

“I told him that I was not there when the agreement was reached and that I have no information about that”

The Ezza South local government area boss also revealed to the visibly angry-looking Governor Elechi that the federal lawmaker also visited former President Obasanjo in Otta farm.

“He cannot deny that he did not go to Otta farm. He has left his legislative duties to stay in Egwu’s house in Abuja whereas his own office is always under lock and key. He does not attend sittings any longer,” Nwopkoro alleged.
