Ekweremadu lauds Yar’Adua on Enugu airport

Abuja-The Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has commened President Umaru Yar‘Adua for initiating projects expected to transform the Enugu airport into an international airport in twelve months time.

Ekweremadu in a letter to the President said  thatthe commencement of the projects estimated to cost N4 billion is a confirmation of the President’s commitment to the equal development of all parts of the country.

Senator Ekweremadu in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Paul Odenyi  also commended the Governors of the five Southeastern states for giving their backing to the project. He also expressed thanks to the National Assembly Southeast caucus for conceiving the project and placing it in the 2009 budget.

“With the right disposition by our Governors, especially Governor Sullivan Chime, it was easy for the legislators to sustain the request that has today, resulted in a bouquet of projects that will ensure the internationalization of the Akanu Ibiam Airport,” Ekweremadu said.

Commending the South East caucus of the National Assembly, he singled out the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Anyim Ude and his counterpart in the House of Representatives, saying, “they pushed us until we got there.”
