Battle for PPA top job hots up

There are indications that the battle for the position of Chairman of the Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA), will be a straight fight between a former service chief and ex-Governor from the south zone.

Sources close to the party’s acting chairman spoke of background  consultation’s among the various interest groups and intensive lobbying which possibly explain the no comments posture of the chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr. Orji Kalu following the resignation of erstwhile chairman, Mr. Clement Ebri.

“PPA will emerge even stronger. Many candidates are jostling for the position of party chairman. There is an ex-service chief as well as a former governor. These are the top contenders. We also have a former minister, an ex-Ambassador and one commissioner in the cabinet of former governor Donald Duke” one of the sources said.

The new chairman according to the insiders is one that will push the party to the next level. He is also expected to position the PPA for more electoral victories beginning from the 2010 elections in Anambra State.

“Contrary to newspaper postulations, the PPA is on top of the situation. The resignation of  Olu Akerele as the Deputy National Chairman South has opened up the South West. Two former Peoples Democratic Party Governors are closing ranks and may back Chief John  Adelabu, a Chartered Accountant, to fill the position. That is the kind of experience we need” another insider added.
