ACF blames kidnap cases on harsh economy

By Emeka Mamah

Kaduna — The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has blamed the rampant cases of kidnapping and hostage taking in the country on the harsh economic situation.

In reaction to Monday’s kidnap of the Secretary to the Government of Kaduna State (SSG),  Mr. Waje Yayok, ACF said that apart from those in government, every other Nigerian feels short-changed but stressed that robberies and hostage taking by the youths do not justify such acts of criminality.

The Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has also reacted to the incident and called for the immediate release of the SSG in the interest of humanity.

According to a statement signed by ACF’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Anthony Sani,  “The reported abduction of Mr. Waje Yayok, the SSG of Kaduna State, has reached Arewa Consultative Forum with chilling effects.

“This is because such vices of hostage taking and kidnappings are disrupting to the ethos of the Northern part of the country. That is why any thought of their becoming part of Northern ways of life is troubling.

“ACF, therefore, calls on the kidnappers of Mr. Waje Yayok to please release him forthwith in the interest of humanity and peaceful co-existence necessary for socio-economic and political development.”
