Aba South LG boss’ election upheld

By Anayo Okoli

Umuahia—THE Abia State Local Government Elections Appeal Panel sitting in Umuahia, yesterday upheld the appeal of the Chairman of Aba South Local Government Area, Chief Okezie Erondu over the nullification of his election by the State Election Tribunal.

The tribunal had nullified Chief Erondu’s election, following the petition filed by Action Congress (AC) candidate, Dr. Christian Okoli, against his return in the council election held on January 19, 2009. Erondu contested  on the platform of Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA).

Meanwhile, the same appeal panel also upheld the decision of the lower tribunal, which declared AC candidate, Mr. Cosmos Ezuo, the winner of Senator Uche Chukwumereije’s a ward in Umunneochi council.

The panel held that Ezuo was the actual winner of the election in the council held on January 19, 2009.

Delivering judgment on the Erondu’s appeal against the decision of the lower tribunal, the Chairman of the panel, Justice Agwu Kalu, said that Okoli was never a candidate in the election, as he was not cleared by the Abia State Electoral Commission (ABSIEC).
