By Emma Ovuakporie
ABUJA—Chairman, Arewa Patriotic Vanguard (APV) Alhaji Abdulrazak Gidado has warned the Federal Government to beware that the 2011 elections could be marred by violence, if urgent steps are not quickly taken to nip it in the bud.

Gidado made this disclosure when the executive members of the group paid the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Maurice Iwu a visit yesterday..

According to the group chairman, the retreat recently held in Kaduna by the apex electoral body was an eye opener to many things that the Federal Government is expected to start being proactive as the ominous signs are already showing that the forthcoming elections could be marred by thuggery, rigging and an unprecedented violence.

He said, “words like revolution, blood spilling should be avoided this period because they are grievous as the users have their children kept in the best schools around the world but they are here singing war songs that would do nobody no good.”

“It is not INEC that imports arms or hire armed thugs to help rig elections but failed democrats that want to acquire power by all means and allow foreigners describe Nigeria as a failed state-God forbid.”

Responding the INEC chairman, Prof. Iwu thanked the youths for sacrificing time to during the fasting period, “ this goes a long way to show your level of patriotism and dedication to your father land, we will take everything you have said seriously and partner with you in all the vital areas that borders on the forthcoming election.”

“We have barely 20 months to the election and it  is our fervent wish that all the ambiguous portions in our electoral laws will be amended before then.”
