BENIN—OVER one thousand members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Uhunmwode local government area of Edo State yesterday dumped the party for the Action Congress (AC).
The decampees, led by the leader of the party in Ohuan ward, Chief Alfred Abusomwan, described the PDP leadership in the state as “one man businessâ€, saying that they decided to leave the party to join the Action Congress-led government in the state to help in developing the state.
Receiving the decampees, AC leader in the state, Senator Rowland Owie, and the Special Adviser to the governor on Political Matters, Mr. Charles Idahosa, informed the decampees that the Governor Adams Oshiomhole-led government in the state had come to wipe out the tears of the people of the state after the “ten-year reign of the PDP disasterâ€, urging the decampees not to be intimidated by the PDP members who may want to threaten them, as the leadership of the AC would not discriminate against them.
Senator Owie asserted that “Oshiomhole has come to clean the tears of the downtrodden that have been in bondage since 1999 by delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
“Oshiomhole is built on Jesus Christ, therefore he is the rock.  I want to assure you that in AC, we do not discriminate against any body, so every body will be accommodated.
“Some of us were amongst those that formed the PDP in the state but we decided to leave the party when it was hijacked by the assembly of the ungodly.
“For ten years, they ruined this country and that is why we are proud of you people today. From what we have seen so far, Governor Oshiomhole is determined to clean the tears of the people and we all must pray and support him at all times.â€
Speaking earlier, Chief Abusomwan said they identified themselves with the visions of Governor Oshiomhole, just as they pledged their loyalty to the governor and assured him of their support.
