Shaibu Amodu, the Super Eagles’ Chief Coach, has included Obinna Nwaneri and John Utaka but dropped Daniel Shittu and Joseph Akpala from the squad in his last minute decision to bloat his team to 23 for the crunchy September 6 South Africa 2010 World Cup qualifier against Tunisia in Abuja.
While presenting his 21-man team list to the Nigeria Football Federation last Friday, Amodu said he was contemplating injecting two more players – a defender and an attacker into the team, which he was going to decide Monday (yesterday).
Amodu had said that there would be no sentiment in choosing the player to be included, as his selection would be based on experience and currency of the players.
Yesterday, NFF Chief Media Officer, Ademola Olajire, confirmed that Amodu had injected Nwaneri and Utaka into the team, thus bringing the number of players to be invited to 23.
The Eagles coach in his explanation on why he would fortify the attacking squad, said he had a choice between strikers John Utaka and Joseph Akpala, noting that he would favour the latter being younger and energetic in the team against the North Africans in the crucial September 6 tie.“But again, experience matters a lot this time. In terms of experience John Utaka has itâ€, Amodu said.
