Starcomms appoints Dantata, Director, wins award

By Prince Osuagwu
Frontline CDMA operator, Starcomms has announced the appointment of Alhaji Tajudeen Dantata, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Dantata Organization Limited as its Board Director.

This is even as the company was last week, honoured with a White Hat award by Spamhaus, the international organization that tracks the Internet’s spam operations.

The award was in recognition of the network’s effort at fighting Internet crimes and its zero tolerance to spam.
Dantata, the new Board Chairman, is a consummate business man. He is on the board of no less than ten Nigerian thriving companies, having been educated at the West London University, where he bagged a Bsc. in Business Studies in 1988 in the course of an educational career that he started at Saint Thomas secondary School in Kano.

He also attended Victoria College in Alexandria in Egypt and Manaret College in Jedda Saudi Arabia.
He started his business career in the Dantata group as a group director in 1988 and was appointed the Group Managing Director in 1994.

He has held the position since then, consolidating the group to what it is today- a conglomerate of successful companies.  Apart from his accomplishments in the Dantata group, Alhaji Tajudeen has also been representing the interests of the group in several Nigerian companies which include Electric Metre Company of Nigeria (EMCON) of which he is the chairman and others, like Virgin Nigeria Airways, Mentholatum Nigeria Limited, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria and NAL Bank Plc where he is a director.

Commenting on the coming on board of Dantata as a director in Starcomms, the chairman of the company Chief Maan Lababidi said the shareholders of the company appreciated the contribution of Alhaji Dantata to all the businesses in which he has interest in particular and the Nigerian economy in general. Hence, they invited him to the board.

“The board of Starcomms Plc. will benefit greatly from the business savvy and the wealth of experience of Alhaji Tajudeen Dantata who has proved himself over the years as one of the most inventive Nigerian entrepreneurs,” he said.

His achievement in the private sector notwithstanding, Alhaji Tajudeen Dantata has also held public offices. He was from 1998 – 2003, the chairman of the Kano State Housing Corporation. He also served from 1996 – 1998 as the chairman of the Kano State Tourism Board.
