A member of the Security sub-committee of the Nigeria 2009 LOC for the U-17 World Cup, Sam Stanford, has commended the Delta State government for elevating the Warri city stadium into a world class sports arena. Mr. Stanford had after a visit to the stadium said that the all covered edifice is one of the best in the country.â€Â Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan deserves a pat on the back over the Warri stadium project. The stadium is a lovely one that will help the growth of football not only in Delta state but the entire country.

The Delta State government has succeeded in giving the youths a befitting soccer arena that will lead to the discovery of more talents like Wilson Oruma, the former Golden Eaglets skipper who was discovered in the streets of Warri.” He stressed that with the Warri city stadium, Delta State which is noted for its tradition of hosting international soccer competitions, will attract more of such games.” I see Delta State becoming the new Mecca of Nigerian football given the state of the art facilities at the warri city stadiumâ€, he said.
It would be noted that world soccer governing body FIFA during a visit to the arena last week expressed dissatisfaction over the flooding of the stadium which was attributed to a faulty drainage system. The Delta State government has however pledged to work on the drainage to ensure that the pitch is not waterlodged when it rains.
Mr. Stanford further charged the Delta State sports commission to be on top of the situation and ensure that work is completed in the training pitch besides the stadium mainbowl. He also tasked the Pinnick Amaju-led commission to make Delta State the nation’s number one in the round leather game.
