Robbers attack former presidential aide

By Simon Ebegbulem
ARMED robbers Thursday, invaded the Benin City residence of  former Presidential aide and member of the Niger Delta Technical Committee, Professor Julius Ihonbvere. The incident is coming barely one week after the former Commissioner for Works in the state, Barrister Anthony Iyalekhue, was assassinated in his GRA residence by suspected assassins.

Vanguard learnt that  the robbers, who stormed the place at about 3am yesterday, gained access to the building after climbing the fence and entered the security post where they ordered the security man at gun point to surrender all the money and jewelries in his possession.

But he explained that he had no jewelries and money and that there was no way he could have had such money when he was only a gateman.

The security man, who narrated the incident to Saturday Vanguard, stated that “ they now took my phone and asked me to call anybody that I know that will be able to give them money, including my Oga, but I told them I have nobody.

They were about four of them but it was two that came inside the compound with guns.

“So they tried for a long time to break into the main house but they could not enter. After trying for over one hour they could not enter, so they opened the small gate and left. They took my phone, my wife’s phone and the little money we have in the house and left.”

Professor Ihonbvere, who spoke to Vanguard shortly after he paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased Iyalekhue, said “ I just came in from Abuja to find out that robbers invaded my house.

“But I thank God I or my wife was not in. They tried to force their way inside but they could not, I thank God it was not more than this, because the insecurity in the state now is very alarming. But I pray God to help us.”
