Gusau – Governor Mahmud Shinkafi of Zamfara, yesterday, said the state government had given various items and financial support to about 11,000 orphans and less-privileged persons in Zamfara as Ramadan welfare package.
Shinkafi spoke in Gusau while flagging-off the distribution exercise in Gusau, weekend.
He said the gesture was aimed at consoling vulnerable groups and encouraging them to live better lives, especailly during the holy month of Ramadan.
He said the programme was part of â€œZakat and endowment activities of the state government which has been sustained over the years.â€
The governor said under the scheme, each male orphan would receive five yards of brocade material while their female counterparts would receive six yards of wrapper and N500 each for sewing.
Shinkafi said 6,500 bags of assorted food items would also be distributed to the less- privileged in the 18 emirates in the state to enable them have sustainable means of breaking their fast throughout the Ramadan period.
The Secretary to the stateâ€™s Zakat and Endowment Board, Alhaji Atiku Sani Maradun, said that 500 orphans and the less-privileged would benefit from the package in each of the 18 emirates in the state.Maradun said
