By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI – Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State has appealed to the Federal Character Commission (FCC) to ensure strict adherence to the principle of geographical spread in appointments at all levels of government in the country.

Ohakim made the appeal in  an address read on his behalf by his Deputy, Dr. Ada Okwuonu, at the commissioning of the state office of the Commission in Owerri.

He recalled that the creation of the Commission was necessitated by the gross marginalization of some areas in the country’s public service.

Ohakim assured the Commission that his administration would continue to partner with it to ensure efficient and effective discharge of its mandate.

Speaking also, the Commission’s Chairman, Prof Shuaibu Abdulraheem, said that the past mistakes of the establishment would be corrected with the assistance of the state government.
