THE Elders Council, Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated Governor Gbenga Daniel over his recent victory at the election tribunal in the state.

Governor Daniel had on Thursday, won at the governorship election tribunal, in the petition against him by the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Amosun challenged the election of Daniel at the election tribunal in Abeokuta.

In a statement, spokesman of the Elders Council, Dr Doyin Okupe said the PDP earned the verdict, which upheld the election of Daniel in the 2007 governorship election in the state.

According to him, “while we rejoice with the PDP family in the state, we seize the opportunity to urge the Governor to refocus his attention on the remaining few months of his eight year tenure on good governance, financial prudence and such programmes that will directly impact the lives and well being of the teeming masses of the state”.

Okupe said the recent victory by Daniel at the election tribunal remained important and strategic to the state chapter of the ruling party, the grassroots in Ogun, Elders Council and the PDP in general.

Meanwhile, as crisis continue to rock the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a two-term member of the House of Representatives for Obafemi-Owode/Abeokuta North/Odeda Federal Constituency, Hon. Kayode Amusan has described the on-going misunderstanding as not bad enough to tear the party apart in the state.

Amusan who spoke to newsmen in Lagos weekend while reacting to the State Governor, Otunba Olugbenga Daniel’s victory at the Tribunal, claimed that the outcome of the court’s verdict was another testimony that the party is on the ground in Ogun State, stressing that rather than challenge the victory of the governor, those politicians who love the state should join hands with Otunba Daniel to move the state forward.

“In Ogun State, it was total victory for PDP, the fact that the party had 100 per cent victory is enough to convince any doubting Thomas that the party had tremendous strenght and acceptance while the leadership of Otunba Daniel is popular,” he said.
