By Yemisi Suleiman

The city of New York comes alive  this September, as it  welcomes designers and models from arround the world  to the 2nd edition of the  New York fashion week Spring collections 2009.

This year’s fashion extravaganza   scheduled from Thursday, September 10 to Thursday September 17, 2009   will see designers gather from around the world to exhibit  their Spring/Summer 2010 collections. Top on the list are Nigeria’s international designers  Joan Okorodudu of  House of Jola ,Lanre Dasilva of LDA, Ngozi Cardow of Zizi and  Frank Osodi of House of Bunor.

These designers are expected to showcase the uniqueness and beauty in African clothing thereby   projecting positively  the country’s image and culture, through  their collections. For   Joan Okorodudu who has participated at  Nigeria fashion week, the south African fashion week and the DC fashion week in February this year, it  is a delight  to be part of  the  New York fashion week as a designer.

satyemStrongly present at the show this year are top models from  Joan Okorodudu’s, Isis Models, some of who also  participated in both Couture and Mercedes Benz fashion show  in February this year. This  also marks the beginning of a new dawn for some Nigerian top models who will be strutting their stuff on the New York runway for the first time. And  as the  International Business Consortium owners of Couture fashion week at the New York fashion week stated,  this show like the February fashion week is expected to be their best outing ever. Spicing up the show is Nigeria’s newest singing sensation Nyanya; winner of MTN  Project Fame, who  will be performing to guests on the red carpet, with clicking cameras from Top magazines and press crew from around the world.

New York City hosts two major “Super Bowls of Fashion” with the big names of fashion unveiling their fall designs in February, and their spring collections in September.

…And the search continues

Face of sleek is fast becoming the most talked about model search in
the country today, and the excitement is building as  Sleek officials gave us a taste of what is to come by organising a before and after photo shoot for some of the already registered contestants….this was done in order to show other potential contestants that are yet to register what is in store for them .

Face of sleek Nigeria is still at the registration stage and girls all over the nation are trooping into sleek studio branches both nationwide to buy their forms, and be  part of what is set to become the most fun, fierce and fabulous show this year.

The regional finals comes up in November where Sleek Nigeria will pick 20 girls from each geo-political group and 10 girls from the facebook group who have earned the highest votes. All in all, there will be 70 girls for the semi finals. Watch out for Vanguard, other magazines and TV Channels for more info on the competition.
