LCDAs : Face-off triggered by mischief makers in Presidency – Aremu

By Victor Ahiuma-Young

Lagos  – VICE President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Issa Aremu, weekend, in Lagos, said the ongoing face off between President Umaru Yar’Adua and Governor Fashola of Lagos State over the 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) was triggered by mischief makers that surround the President and called on Nigerians to pray that the mischief makers would not lead the President to self destruction.

Aremu who is also the General Secretary of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) argued that instead of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led Federal Government to commend the Lagos State government for its developmental efforts in the state, the PDP government was looking for every opportunity to frustrate the Lagos State government.

The NLC Vice President who was delivering a paper on “Unionism as a veritable tool for industrial harmony in grass-roots administration,” organised by members of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Onigbongbo LCDA branch, to mark their one year anniversary, said more LCDAs should be created to bring development closer to the grassroots because it was  through institutions like LCDA that people in the grassroots could feel government presence.

According to him, “we should pray for President Yar’Adua. He actually means well for Nigeria and Nigerians, but mischief makers around him, especially the minsters, PDP top shots do not mean well for Nigeria. Nigerians have to pray for the President so that those mischief makers around him would not lead him to self destruction. If there are friends President Yar’ Adua must keep close to himself, one of such persons is Governor Fashola of Lagos,” he said.
