It was an invasion of some sort as 56 amateur golfers from Asaba, Delta State hit the Ikeja Golf Club like a hurricane as both clubs met in an Inter- Club Matchplay at the 10 holes golf club in Lagos.

Ikeja was obviously stunned by the number of players from Asaba, as a the ‘militants’ came out smoking from the first set to the last. The number of the players was so much; Ikeja had to scout for members to play against the Deltans who were on a mission.

The Asaba side led IGCC Captain  Daniel Mayuku, had players like Echi Obue, Jolomi Ideh, both flew in from London. George Ugbomah (IGCC Vice Captain), Honourable Sola Williams (IGCC Lady Captain), Commander Peter Iweze (rtd), Hon. Gabriel Okpuno,Techo, Sifo Aneti, Efe Esiri, Austin and Friday Akpodiete, Faith Baya, Joy Solomon and others.

“We came here to beat Ikeja, and it feels so good that we achieved our aim. We wanted to prove that we have players who can take on the best in the country and come out with their heads held high, and we did just that against Ikeja Golf Club defeating them 13-9”, one Asaba golfer said.

IGCC captain Hon. Mayuku was full of praises for Ikeja Golf Club for the warm reception accorded them all through the competition.
“Though we defeated Ikeja Golf Club, they are good golfers and we will be happy to receive them in Asaba when they come calling. I am impressed with the course, especially the greens and I have learnt a thing or two from my fellow captain who is a great golfer too”, Mayuku said.
