Against the backdrop of state governors taking up senatorial seats after completing their tenure, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has condemned the action, saying that after serving as governor for eight years, it is wrong to go and represent a senatorial district.
Governor Idris, who spoke in Lokoja the state capital to a group of journalists, stated that there is no justification for going to represent one senatorial district after being in charge of three districts as governor, adding that the younger ones should be given the chance.
He also spoke on Senator Smart Adeyemi, representing Yagba West Senatorial District of the state, saying that he made Adeyemi a Senator only for him to turn against him (Idris).
Senator Adeyemi had, early this year, opposed the governor’s ministerial nominee during Senate screening over allegation that he (Idris) was concentrating his appointments on his Senatorial District.
According to the governor, “It sounds funny that after eight years of being a governor in charge of three senatorial districts, you still go back to say you are looking for one senatorial post because you want to be a senator, because you are the only one that knows everything.â€
