Group decries crisis in Benue PDP

By Peter Duru

MAKURDI — A group under the aegis of Benue Democratic Watch (BDW) has decried the crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in parts of Benue State, describing the situation as unhealthy to the norms and principle of democracy.

It condemned in totality the purported withdrawal of the mandate of some seven duly elected councillors in Buruku Local Government Area by the state secretariat of the PDP, warning that the action could spark off another round of violence in the area.

Addressing newsmen in the Makurdi, the Protem chairman of the group, Mr. Jonah Ben Ashiwe condemned what he called “the dirty fight for the soul of PDP in parts of Benue State which has culminated in ugly incidents in Buruku and Konshisha leading to the loss of lives and destruction of properties in recent time.

“What is happening in Buruku is not only condemnable but a threat to our nascent democracy which must not be allowed to continue in the interest of peace and the wellbeing of the people of that area,” the group said.
