Owerri – Officers and men of the Imo State Command of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) have been commended for their prompt response to road traffic accidents in the state. They were also commended for their rescue efforts.
The Transition Chairman of Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area, Mr. Promise Osigwe, gave the commendation, when he hosted the Sector Commander, Mr. Angus Ibezim, in his office.
Osigwe promised to provide office accommodation and other logistics support for the proposed FRSC unit command in Isinweke for the effective operations of the Road Marshals.
He explained that what prompted his decision was the incessant and unnecessary road traffic crashes with its attendant loss of precious lives along the federal highway that passes through Isinweke.
Contributing, the Chairman, Ihitte Uboma Local Government Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze M. Okeke, condemned the attitude of drivers he said “have no respect for human livesâ€. He called for stiffer sanction against erring motorists.
Speaking earlier, the Sector Commander urged the local council chairman to join the crusade of ensuring the use of safety helmet by motorcyclists, training and re-training of local government drivers on good driving culture and formation of Special Marshal Unit.
