The Acting Managing Director of Daar Communications, Tony Akiotu, has said the verdict of FIFA to give the U-17 World Cup Broadcast Rights to the Africa Independent Television was a victory to Nigerians.
Akiotu said the news of FIFA’s decision threw staff of the outfit into wild jubilation on Saturday.
He said, “It was a fair decision and it is obvious we deserve the rights based on what we have compared to our competitors.
“We have everything set for the competition and the decision of FIFA was just a vindication of our efforts. In the past eight months we have been training our staff in readiness for the competition.
“As we celebrate we are also aware that this is a big challenge for us to work hard and justify the confidence reposed on us by FIFA.â€
The AIT acting MD disclosed that a meeting would be held later this week with technocrats and other stakeholders in the television industry on how best to go about the project.
“We are happy not only because it is AIT but because this event will be transmitted live by a Nigerian organization. Next week, we are expecting two more trucks to further boost what we have on the ground,†he said.
