ABAKALIKI – Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi state has charged the young in the state to concentrate their efforts on how to create jobs for themselves, especially through agriculture, rather than wait for none existent white collar jobs that he said creates shadow or disguised unemployment.
The Governor bemoans situations where university graduates wait endlessly to be employed by the government even when their professions are not required by the employee, noting that the trend could be resolved through the practice of agriculture than near complete reliance on petroleum.
Governor Elechi spoke in Abakaliki when he commissioned a multi-million naira Chiboy Integrated Agricultural Farms Limited. The Chiboy farm is a training centre with various divisions including, aquaculture and fishery, grass cutter, snail and rice farming, cassava and maize production.
Elechi explained that his administration had invested heavily in agriculture by training of youths abroad, subsidizing farm implements among other incentives. The Governor lauded the Managing Director of the firm, Mr Chinedu Ogah for his vision, pointing out that he had by the venture created jobs for a good number of people in the state.
