EFCC arrests 2 suspected kidnappers in Enugu

By Tony Edike

Enugu – THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives in Enugu have arrested two suspected kidnappers and fraudsters, who demanded a ransom of N6million from the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, Mr. Ejike Ani to forestall his abduction and elimination for seeking second term in office.

The suspects, who were armed with a pump action gun fully loaded and bulletproof vests, were apprehended in a popular hotel within GRA Enugu at about 7.30pm on Wednesday, while waiting for the Council Chairman to bring the money which they ordered him to pay in hard currency.

Ani told reporters at the hotel, where officials of the EFCC had gone to recover a Mercedes Benz 300E car with registration number Lagos AS 616 FST abandoned by the kidnappers, that the two men, who he identified as Ernest Nweze, former Administrator of Mmam River Development Centre in Oji River Local Government Area and one ‘Col. David’ had been in touch with him since last week, claiming that they were in possession of a petition written against him by some people alleging against him, that he embezzled public funds.
