Lafia – The Nasarawa State Government, yesterday, distributed 107 tractors and disbursed N1 billion loans to farmers as part of efforts to encourage large-scale agricultural production in the state.
Presenting the tractors and cheques to the beneficiaries in Lafia, Gov. Aliyu Doma said the incentives were the first phase of the “Bada Koshiâ€agricultural scheme initiated by his administration in July.
He said the scheme was designed to stimulate the people to embrace agriculture as the mainstay of the economy.
“Our aim is to maximise food sufficiency, create employment opportunities, reduce poverty and create wealth,†he said.
Doma said under the first phase of the scheme, 456 farmers and farmer groups across the state would benefit from a N530-million loan facility.
He said the N1 billion loan facility was obtained from Oceanic Bank Plc, and would be repaid within three years, adding that the beneficiaries would enjoy one year moratorium before the commencement of repayment.
